Lash Lifts or “Lash Perms” as they used to be known are increasing in popularity with women who want an extra boost for their lashes. I am one of those girls that has used curling mascaras religiously because I am legitimately terrified of eyelash curlers! I just don’t trust myself with them…too many “what ifs”. I’ve also never coloured my own hair, so take that for what it’s worth, too.

I’m someone that looks to professionals for procedures like these and for my lash lift and tint I went to my fave beauty bar in Calgary: Distilled. When I arrived at my appointment, I was given a consultation of whether or not I could continue with eyelash extensions or if in fact, I truly did need to give my eyes a break…which I did.

I recently forewent my beloved eyelash extensions…partly because I needed to take a break from them and partly because I’d been forced to (because they fell off). You can read more on that here.

5+ Benefits of a Lash Lift + Lash Tint

Healthier For Your Lashes. Prolonged wear of eyelash extensions can be really hard on your natural lashes and often lash techs will suggest a break from extensions after a few years. A lash lift and tint works with your natural lashes.

Cheaper Than Lash Extensions. A lash lift and tint procedure should really only cost around $100 and doesn’t need to be repeated at the same frequency.

Lower Maintenance Than Extensions. Because a lash lift and/or tint can last over a month it is far less maintenance than extensions (some women get them done only quarterly or a couple times a year). How long a lift or tint will last depends on the person but it definitely doesn’t require the upkeep of eyelash extensions.

There Are No Post-Procedure Restrictions. You know that rule of not getting fresh extensions wet, avoiding hot yoga or saunas or any of that? The minute your lash lift and/or tint are complete, you can rub the heck out of your eyes! You’re good to go. You can also wear whatever makeup you like (even waterproof!) and use any cleansing oils you’ve got on your vanity.

Great for Regrowing Lashes Post-Extensions. A lash lift is a great place to start when re-growing your eyelashes. It can help them grow in the right direction (up and not out!). Plus, the tint makes your lashes more visible, too, if you opt for a more natural look.

What a Lash Lift & Tint
Procedure Looks Like

If you’ve had eyelash extensions before, you’re familiar with having pads and tape on your eyes. This process isn’t entirely different in its prep but I wanted to show you what it looks like!

Lash Tint Procedure

Because you’ll likely want your lower lashes tinted, too, the tech will do the tint first. The tint procedure literally dyed my eyelashes darker so that when I wasn’t wearing any mascara they didn’t look nonexistent. Tinting my lower lashes also made it so I didn’t have to apply mascara to them if I didn’t want to.

Lash Lift Procedure

It used to be called an “eyelash perm” because it really is just that – a semi-permanent curl for your lashes! The extra curl from the lash lift helped to make my stubby little eyelashes look a bit longer – plus they didn’t look like little sticks when I applied mascara. Here’s what the Lash Perm or Lash Lift looks like:

Special thanks to Teresa at Distilled for making my eyes feel pretty again and for all the great tips for maximizing my baby lashes while they grew back out!

Before & After My Eyelash Lift & Tint

Here are some photos from before and after my lift and tint procedures. Keep in mind that I got a lift and tint to help my lashes look more “normal” when all of my eyelash extensions fell off. This procedure was a month or so ago, and my lashes have still held their curl and darker tint.
