Nestled in the heart of the Spray Lakes Valley in Kananaskis Country is Mount Engadine Lodge. This quiet lodge in the Canadian Rocky Mountains is the perfect spot for a quiet getaway for the outdoor enthusiast.
This area is great for those looking to spend time in the outdoors or enjoying the scenery fireside. The lodge offers fantastic food and accommodations in a relaxed environment. Read on for why Mount Engadine Lodge is the perfect spot for your next mountain getaway!
Getting There
Mount Engadine Lodge can be accessed from Canmore. It’s about 38km in distance (about a 45 minute drive) from Canmore and around 158km from the Calgary International Airport. The road to get here is a dirt road, but it is well maintained and makes for a stunning scenic drive.
Along the way you’ll pass lookout points where you can stop and take photographs, breathe in the fresh mountain air or even go for a hike! You’ll also pass streams and lakes with picnic areas and opportunities to see local wildlife in their natural habitat.
Accommodations at
Mount Engadine Lodge
Mount Engadine Lodge offers a few different accommodation options. These include cabins, lodge rooms, glamping tents and even a yurt! Each option is very comfortable, cozy and relaxing. Just because you’re in the middle of the beautiful wilderness does not mean you have to rough it!
Each type of accommodation is unique and features an ensuite bath (with the exception of the yurt). You can expect cozy linens, balconies with mountain views, fireplaces and other comfortable touches in each space. The toiletries provided are locally sourced from Rocky Mountain Soap Co., a personally favourite of mine.
Mount Engadine Lodge offers pet-friendly accommodations meaning the whole family can stay comfortably! Hattie sure enjoyed her stay with a cozy spot to lay her head after a long walk through the mountain valley. There’s something about waking up to views of the mountains, being able to step out onto the deck and breathing in the fresh morning mountain air.
The Main Lodge
The main lodge is open to all guests and has some really great features. The lodge is composed of several rooms, each with comfortable furniture perfect for curling up with a good book. You’ll also find a small library of books to read, including many that feature information on the wildlife and hiking trails in the area.
The wood burning fire places offer a comfortable space to gather with a drink after dinner and the main ‘living room’ offers a selection of board games for fun for all ages. Here you’ll also find a piano and acoustic guitar where often guests will play for one another. Don’t forget your slippers – there are no shoes allowed in the lodge so guests are encouraged to bring slippers or warm socks to stay cozy!
It’s also worth mentioning that with the exception of the dining room, the main lodge is also pet friendly, so you won’t have to leave your pets in your room if you’re relaxing fireside! There’s also a large veranda deck with views of the mountains and valley below – this also overlooks a wildlife corridor where you can see some of Canada’s most beautiful animals in the wild. Forgot your binoculars? Don’t worry – the lodge has a few pairs on hand for guests to borrow.
The main lodge is also where you’ll find the dining room and bar.
An All-Inclusive Stay
Something unique about Mount Engadine Lodge is that all of their room rates include meals. Enjoy locally inspired cuisine for a full breakfast, packed lunch, afternoon tea and gourmet dinner. Alcohol is available for an additional charge.
Meals are served family-style in the Main Lodge Dining Room. Chat with other guests, make new friends and enjoy fantastic food! Be sure to mention any dietary restrictions or allergies when booking – the kitchen is happy to accommodate.
Our afternoon tea featured a charcuterie board of locally sourced ingredients as well as a lovely dessert course. This is a lovely way to cap off an afternoon spent outdoors.
A full breakfast is served every morning with pastries, coffee and tea available beforehand for earlier risers. This is also served family style. At breakfast you’ll be able to place your order for your packed lunch for the day which is great for pickier eaters like myself! It’s also perfect for taking on your day’s outdoor activities!
Things to Do at Mount Engadine Lodge
As Mount Engadine Lodge is nestled in the Spray Lakes Valley, the things to do here vary by season. Some of my favorites include hiking, nature walks, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking and fishing.
Forgot your gear? The main lodge rents out equipment for a few different activities, so be sure to ask one of the staff for help or recommendations!
One of the most common activities to do in the area is hike. There are a number of hikes for every skill level and interest in difficulty as well as a number of easier nature paths to follow for the less mobile. The staff are highly knowledgable of the area so they will be able to point you in the right direction.
The lodge is on a hill that overlooks a wildlife corridor that allows guests to sit and enjoy nature right from the balcony of their room or the main lodge.
My Editorial Opinion of Our Stay
Our stay at Mount Engadine Lodge was fantastic. From the food to the scenery to the quiet space to just unplug, our stay was great from start to finish. To experience the area and all that the lodge has to offer, I highly recommend a minimum two-night stay.
It’s worth noting that this is somewhere to unplug and disconnect from technology. The rooms do not have televisions and cell service is spotty at best. The lodge does offer satellite internet, but it isn’t the speediest.
The staff at Mount Engadine Lodge really made our stay great (I cannot say this enough). When we visited, I was 8 months pregnant and they were incredibly accommodating. Noting that I wasn’t consuming caffeine, they ensured that there was always a pot of decaf coffee available to me for afternoon tea and at breakfast (I didn’t have to ask). We noticed how accommodating they were to guests with dietary restrictions as well – nothing was too much to ask.
For a quiet weekend away where you can fully unwind and immerse yourself in some of the most beautiful scenery Canada has to offer, I highly recommend a stay at Mount Engadine Lodge! It’s a great place to unwind, disconnect from busy life, reconnect with nature and your family and come home refreshed.
