5starMy son enjoyed a lovely hot roast beef sandwich. The roast beef is fresh, thinly sliced and tender. Absolutelydeli...cious. I had the lohiperuna laatikko (a salmon stew/ casserole). It is ethnic Finnish dish that tastes delicious with a large portion of salmon, potatoes and spiced nicely. See More
Kerri-Ann Aylward5starThe Hoito is all about historicalsignificat ion to the Finnish community. It's not just a cheap place to eat.
Years ago ...when I was a young girl I would go to the Hoito with my granny to sime times meet up with aunties and uncles and sit at the counter or the long tables and alot of tines it would be along with strangers, but it was never uncomforta ble because it was the way of the traditiona l finnish bush workers . This is where they all met for a good hearty finnish meal that they could afford as immigrants .
I loved to listen to the elders speaking in their native language,... like my relatives spoke to me.
There is so much history here from the workers to the strong beliefs of the hard working finnish man or woman. This is where they came to meet and be together. All broke bread together. It is sad that I no longer see many of the elders reading the paper speaking finnish to one another across the table because they have been traded in for the young hipsters that go to the Hoito just because it's cheap or that is the "hangover breakfast" hangout.
I believe that some people that have written some comments about the food or servers whom are almost always finnish, should think twice before making judgements about the Hoito because it is more than just a restaurant to a lot of people. It's where we stay connected as finnish people and our culture and have opened the doors to others share in the love of family friends and finnish food.
Sorry if your experiencefell short to your expectatio ns. I asure you any time myself or friends and family of ours go to the Hoito it's always a wonderful time to share with each other the little slice of finnish food and history that we all love to enjoy.
I am proud of the Hoito and it's significance to our culture... .and my kid's love the food everytime as do I.
