I’m not someone who likes to go to the gym for exercise – I’m more of a take my dog for a walk or play sports kind of girl. I also do a lot of walking around my home. I’m up and down the stairs, in and out of my yard doing gardening, etc. All this being said, I needed a solution for tracking how much activity I was really doing. Enter the Fitbit.
Friends of mine had them and my B-I-L was even given one through work. My husband and I decided to get them and see what the fuss was about. We decided on the Fitbit Flex as it seemed like the model that made the most sense for us and our types of activities. Here’s my story and why I love my Fitbit.
We chose the Fitbit Flex but there are other options like the Charge or the Surge Fitness Watch for more intense activity levels. There are also smaller, more discrete options as well. Each option comes with its own set of features such as a watch or a built-in heart rate monitor. Prices range from $69.95 to $249.
I love that I am able to track my progress and view it on the brand’s iPhone app (works for along list of other devices as well) that syncs via bluetooth as well as online if I choose. It not only tracks my steps and activity, but it tracks my sleep patterns as well. It’s fun to watch the elevations in activities. I wear mine when I play hockey and I can determine when I am on and off the ice in a game by the spikes on the graph!
I love that it is compatible with the My Fitness Pal app as well as other apps and tools for tracking fitness and staying in shape. It also connects to the Aria Wireless Smart Scale so that you can track weight changes from your activity. There is an entire group of applications that you can integrate with your Fitbit.
My husband and I added each other as “friends” through the Fitbit app so that we could compete and share our progress. It makes it a lot more fun than just doing it on your own. “How did you get 1,200 steps already?” he would text me, to which I would reply, “I went to Costco this afternoon.” You don’t realize just how your daily activities can really add up.
The Fitbit Flex is probably the most versatile of their products as its tracker can be tucked into any of its corresponding silicone wristbands that come in a rainbow of colors and patterns. Most recently released is the designer collaboration of Tory Burch for Fitbit which includes metal bracelets, double-wrap leather bracelets and chain necklaces that the Fitbit Flex tracker can be used with. The collection also features the classic silicone Fitbit band but with a designer twist. Prices range from $38 to $195.
