Spring Wardrobe Transition: 2 Jackets You Need This Season

Spring is one of the trickiest seasons to dress for – it can either be too warm or too cool for certain styles and we’re all certainly tired of wearing our parkas at this point! But how do you dress for the unpredictable weather? The short answer is: the right layers.

For me, Spring means getting outside as much as possible! Even though I participate in a number of Winter sports, I still feel the need to get outdoors more come Springtime. I like my outerwear to work for me on a number of levels: when I’m on the go, when I’m being sporty and when I’m traveling. This post should help you with what to pack when visiting Canada or visiting the Canadian Rockies in Spring!

P.S. These items are also great for Fall Transition as well!

Here’s what I look for in items to wear outside to transition through the seasons:

#1: I opt for items that work well layered together and on their own.

#2: I look for lightweight, breathable fabrics that move well.

#3: I look for flattering cuts, even when items are worn layered.

#4: I look for pieces that work in multiple situations: sports + real life.

#5: I opt for classic colours that work with my existing wardrobe (i.e. usually navy!).

Jacket #1: The Down Sweater-Jacket

A lightweight down coat like this is a wardrobe staple for me. I wear it with jeans, as a base layer, on its own, when I’m out walking Hattie…even for Spring skiing!

This down sweater-jacket was plenty warm for hitting the slopes in spring! Not too warm, not too cold, and very breathable! SHOP: Jacket

I love that this jacket is cut for a female shape making it equally cute with jeans as it is when I’m outside doing something sporty. SHOP: Jacket | Shoes | Sunglasses

Side note: Can we talk about these leggings for a second? I’m all for yoga pants but I’ve seriously fallen in love with this pair of leggings from Patagonia. They’re a little thicker so they are warm on their own while also acting as a great base layer (Spring skiing anyone?). They compress without hurting you and have super flattering seams. You need these in your life. SHOP: Leggings | Jacket | Top | Shoes | Sunglasses

Jacket #2: The Waterproof Shell

This is actually a raincoat! I love this coat so much I have it in two colours (you might remember seeing it in bright pink in some of my previous posts). I love that it is breathable while being both water and wind resistant.

Like other items from the Patagonia women’s collection, it’s cut to flatter a female figure, so you don’t have to worry about looking super boxy while trying to stay warm. SHOP: Raincoat | Shoes

Layers Are Always Better Together

Having a wind-and-waterproof shell to throw over your packable down can be a God-send on Spring days. The down base will keep you warm and insulated and the shell will keep those chilly Spring breezes from penetrating.

Both jackets are lightweight which makes them great for layering for cooler spring hikes. It also means that if you need to remove a layer, it isn’t going to weigh your pack down!
