It’s hard to find a bag for men that is functional, stylish and well-made. The market isn’t there for men like it is for women’s handbags (i.e. there isn’t a lot out there for men between Swiss Army and Prada). That’s why I love these bags from Mother Co – they really fill this gap! Here’s why I like them so much:
They’re designed and made in Calgary, Canada (and can be shipped anywhere!) and the materials and craftsmanship of these bags are fantastic. The style and materials keep their bags looking professional and stylish without being too casual or too stuffy. They really fill a gap in the market.
I’ve visited the company’s design studio and had the opportunity to speak to the owners/designers of the brand. These guys are really cool and down to earth and their studio completely reflects the style of their brand with high ceilings, exposed brick and polished concrete floors. I was able to check out the raw materials, the bags in progress and learn the story behind the brand.
The Forge Collection features 3 different bag styles:
Weekender, Messenger & Backpack

– Made of waxed canvas and genuine leather and are water resistant
– Their Messenger and Backpack both include a 15.6″ padded laptop compartment
– Priced from $119 – $129
– Each bag is available in four color options (blue, brown, green, tan)
Why These Bags Are Great:
Weekender: I love the Weekender, especially because it’s hard to find a nice duffel that doesn’t look like a gym bag (and that isn’t $500).
Messenger: The Messenger is probably my favorite as it is the most versatile. I love that it works for a variety of age ranges, too (especially that 18-45 aged guy who doesn’t want to carry his laptop around in one of those traditional old-style black leather computer bags of the 90s).
Backpack: The Backpack is also great as it, too, features a padded laptop compartment. I think this is a great choice for students (and it’s water resistant, so it’s great for those walking to and from or across campus).
I can’t wait for their brand to expand beyond these great bags (note: they featured a killer line of bomber jackets at the last Calgary Market Collective!).
