Refreshing certain rooms in your home on a seasonal basis just makes sense. I don’t like to make huge changes, but a refresh is always nice! When it comes to summer, I’m a huge fan of texture! Linens, woven textiles and airy cottons are among my absolute favorites!
Summer allows for different fabrics to be included in your decorating mix, and living in a country that seems to have long, cold winters every year, we tend to embrace summer just that much more!! These fabrics tend to not only add a breezy feel, they also brighten up the space.

Cotton Bedding: Sheets, Duvet Sets + Summer Quilts

I prefer white bed linens, at least in the case of pillow cases and duvet covers. This is three fold for me. 1. I love how crisp and clean white looks and 2. I like when I can use OxyClean to remove any stains without fear of damaging the fabric color. 3. I also like that because our dog sleeps with us, should she have ever picked up a tick along the way, it would show up a lot quicker on a white bedspread.
If a quilt is too much of a swap for your summer bedroom, opt for a white duvet cover with a colorful accent stripe. I love these embroidered hotel stripe ones!

There’s something so comfortable about fresh, clean and new bedding. If you do one thing to refresh your bedroom this summer then let these super soft, comfy sheets be just that! Cotton breathes the best and I love how many colors this set comes in. I’d opt for white or one of the shades of blue myself.

No matter the season, I love a cozy throw! A throw is perfect for when I cuddle up with Hattie on the bed on to flip through magazines or read a book without having to get under the covers. I also love the extra texture and color that a throw provides to the space. The three above are my faves this year!
I love throw pillows and I can imagine that most of you do, too, but I invite you to tread carefully here! I find that throw pillows are the one design item that men scoff at and seem to find utterly annoying and useless. That being said, if you’re going to introduce throw pillows into your space, even seasonally, I suggest only adding a few (as a compromise!). Standard sized pillows with shams are another great way to add extra pillows to the bed without it feeling like you’re piling on.
When I think of curtains in the summer, I’m conflicted. I love airy linens and lightweight cottons, but when you live in a northern country like we do, it seems to be light for what seems like 18 hours a day. To keep those sunbeams from flooding your room at 4am, I suggest something that looks airy but still blocks the light. You don’t need to go full blackout, but you’ll definitely need something more substantial than you would in the winter time.

Ahh, the finishing touches! What’s a refresh without adding some well-placed accessories?! I often look at the items in my bedroom and think that I need to refresh what’s on my dresser because it just feels drab and boring. A new season is the perfect time to swap out old items for some fresh new ones! My picks? New photo frames with either more recent photos or fond memories, a set of boxes for keeping bits and bobs tidy, and a serving tray to allow you to sit a glass of lemonade on the bed beside you!
